CFHI Mourns the Passing of Dr. Cy Frank

The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) is saddened by the death of Dr. Cy Frank, who worked closely with our foundation and was a true innovator in the delivery of healthcare services to Canadians.

Over the years, Dr. Frank mentored executives in our EXTRA program for healthcare improvement, and could always be called upon for advice and insights on ways to improve healthcare in Canada. Dr. Frank’s work leaves a legacy that compels all of us to continue striving for healthcare improvements.

Dr. Frank’s accomplishments were many and his impact was felt broadly across the country and internationally. He was a truly innovative clinician, having led work with the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute that created a single-entry approach to hip and knee replacements, which has helped to improve access and reduce surgical wait times. Throughout his career, Dr. Frank pioneered improvements in healthcare access and always championed reduced wait times. Most recently, he sat on Health Canada’s Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation that seeks to reduce the growth in health spending while leading to improvements in the quality and accessibility of care.

Dr. Frank was a friend and colleague to many of us at CFHI, and his passion and dedication will be sorely missed. On behalf of all the staff at CFHI, we thank Dr. Frank for his contributions and compassion. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
