Metrics for Healthcare Quality:
The Leader's Role
Held February 17, 2010 in Montreal, at the Hotel
Omni Mont-Royal
The 2010 CEO Forum, titled Metrics for Healthcare Quality: The Leader's Role,
provided CEOs, policymakers and experts from across Canada the opportunity to share
experiences, challenges and ideas about implementing strategies to measure and improve
healthcare quality and performance.
Achieving higher quality of care within the Canadian healthcare system is necessary
for reducing needless mortality, morbidity and excess costs. However, navigating
a successful path is complex, with no single way of capturing quality and no simple
route to higher performance.
Throughout this daylong forum, senior healthcare leaders shared quality and performance
challenges in their own institutions and jurisdictions, with a view to exchanging
sustainable strategies for improvement that are driven by evidence.
Through CEO-led case studies group discussions and Q & A sessions, participants
had the opportunity to discuss the following aspects of metrics and healthcare quality:
- common dimensions and indicators of quality, across the continuum of care
- a charter for collecting and reporting on quality performance
- an infostructure to manage service demands and improve patient care
- levers for effective governance for quality
- the infrastructure required to support a continuous focus on quality and
performance improvement
