The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) is hosting an invitational Summit in Vancouver, British Columbia. This Summit brings together more than 200 healthcare leaders from across Canada to advance 45 CFHI-supported projects that are improving healthcare for patients and spreading innovations nationwide. This is the largest summit of innovative CFHI-supported teams ever held. Project teams are inter-professional and include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, managers and executives from every province and Yukon.
At the Summit, teams are divided into three programming streams based on the CFHI program in which they are participating:

  1. Reducing Antipsychotic Medication Use in Long Term Care:
CFHI is supporting 15 teams from healthcare organizations across Canada as they tackle the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications in 56 long-term care facilities.  This collaborative is part of CFHI’s Spreading Healthcare Innovations Initiative. The Summit is the second face-to-face workshop for teams participating in this collaborative, with programming focused on ‘Managing, Measuring and Spreading Improvements in Long Term Care.’

  3. EXTRA program for healthcare improvement:
In April 2014, the 11th cohort began this 14-month team-based fellowship where participants gain quality improvement skills while completing an applied project in their home organization(s). Eleven teams from 5 provinces were accepted into the program. The Summit is the teams’ second face-to-face residency session as they implement their projects and work towards final reports on results in August 2015. During the Summit, EXTRA fellows will focus on the 5th module in their fellowship ‘Refining, Accelerating and Sustaining Change.’
