Patient Scholarship Available – Better Together Policy Roundtable

The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) supports the active participation of patients and caregivers in health system design, delivery and evaluation. As part of our commitment to ensure the patient/caregiver voice is embedded in our work, CFHI is offering two scholarships to enable the participation of patients and/or caregivers at the pan-Canadian Better Together Policy Roundtable meeting taking place in Ottawa on September 25-26, 2017.

About the Roundtable

The Better Together Policy Roundtable is a closed event that will bring together leaders from across Canada to learn from provincial jurisdictions who have implemented family presence policies across healthcare organizations within their jurisdictions and to gain an understanding of the practical implementation of this policy. Each provincial and territorial government has been invited to send up to three delegates: one government representative, one patient and family advisor, and, if applicable, one partner organization. By the end of the two day event, the delegates at the event will have clear, actionable next steps to begin the process of adoption within their jurisdictions.

The roundtable will take place in English.

Role of Patient and Family Advisors

Together with other roundtable delegates, including government representatives, and partner organizations, patient and family advisors will participate in roundtable proceedings, using their experiential knowledge to discuss how family presence may be implemented in their jurisdictions. This may include identifying important elements of a family presence policy, how patients have been and can be engaged in the implementation of the policy change and how a new family presence policy may impact patients and families. Patients and family members will also be asked to reflect on how they might spread the roundtable learnings and provide feedback to CFHI on their experience as an event participant and on the scholarship process."

How to Apply

We invite patients and families who have lived experience related to hospital visiting hours and/or family presence policies and are experienced advisors within healthcare organizations to submit an application for a scholarship. We aim to include diverse perspectives, and encourage applications that reflect those from Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ, persons with disabilities, people living in rural and remote communities, and from members of visible minority groups.

In addition, applicants will be asked to reflect on two questions related to participation  in the Roundtable and how they propose sharing learnings from the Roundtable with others.

Applications will be accepted until August 25 at 5pm ET.

Decisions will be made together by CFHI with the Better Together Policy Roundtable Steering Committee.

The call for applications is now closed.
