Timely access to healthcare is a perennial concern for Canadians. Federal, provincial and territorial governments have made considerable investments in access to care and access has improved in some areas, with most Canadians receiving priority procedures within benchmarks. However, challenges remain in other areas such as: after-hours and weekend access to primary care, access to care in rural and remote areas, wait times from primary care referral to specialist care, and wait times for a hospital bed when being admitted through the emergency department.

CFHI has worked with healthcare organizations across Canada to develop and implement solutions that improve access to care and reduce wait times. The Connected Medicine collaboratives are improving timely access to specialty services through remote consult solutions.
