September 24, 2019, Ottawa (unceded traditional territory of Algonquin Anishinaabeg people) – The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement and First Nations Health Managers Association today announced that they have renewed their partnership agreement focused on advancing First Nations health, sharing interests in health system improvement and capacity development for First Nations leaders and communities, and working toward reconciliation for First Nations health.
Extending to March 31, 2021, the new agreement identifies three areas for collaboration:
- Information sharing and capacity development: developing and delivering information, knowledge, training and development services that benefit people served by both organizations
- Health system initiatives: enhancing relationships between First Nations communities and provincial-territorial health systems to enable cultural safety and humility in health systems
- Health leadership initiatives: supporting the continued development of leaders in First Nations health and fostering shared learnings of health system leaders across Canada
“CFHI honours the key role of FNHMA as a leader and expert in First Nations health systems leadership and capacity development,” said Jennifer Zelmer, CFHI President and CEO. “Enshrined in our refreshed corporate strategy is a commitment to be guided by the perspectives of First Nations, Inuit and Métis in enabling cultural safety and humility in health systems, and this partnership will foster the shared learning and enhanced relationships crucial to this work.”
